Mayor Brandon Johnson Announces Juneteenth Task Force Members

Why We Care NFP Founder and Executive Director, Tanya Watkins, has been appointed to the Chicago Reparations Task Force by Mayor Brandon Johnson. Watkins joins a 40-member task force composed of community leaders, individuals with lived experience, and representatives of organizations that serve, represent, or advocate for Black communities. Tanya will serve as a community voice in the redevelopment process. We are proud to see her join this important table of leaders and changemakers.

Volunteers

Our Purpose

Support Low-Income Communities and Group Homes

We aim to assist those in need including helping with childcare, teaching financial literacy, and providing scholarships, job training, entrepreneurial mentorship, and access to sustainable employment opportunities.

Bridge the Benefits Cliff

We work to ensure that low-income populations have access to resources to help bridge the gap between income from a new job and loss of public benefits so they are not in danger of falling over the benefits cliff.

Celebrate Community

Our inclusive approach means that everyone can participate in our community celebrations, where we champion the diversity of expressions and uplift local community traditions.

Delivering Christmas Meals

Feed & Clothe

Between 2018 and 2023 our organization has fed and provided warm items such as gloves, scarves, and hats to over 450 people experiencing homelessness during harsh Chicago winters.
